Daddies and Daddy-In-Laws

Well, the last week has been busy, hence my lack of posts. I don’t think this really has to do with being a newlywed, although it helps, but when you are young you find yourself scuttling from activity to activity, always tired and exhausted. As young newlyweds, it just adds to that, now we just have double what we did before… Double the family, Double the friend, Double the love! How cheesy! :D They keep us on our toes with places to do and things to go… oh wait, I mean the other way around. :) Anyway, that just seems to be the way it is. We don’t mind much since it keeps us busy and busy is better than laziness. Yes?
So, last Father’s Day in the mayhem of deciding what the perfect gifts could be for our dear daddies, we almost didn’t get one! It was Father’s Day and I still hadn’t decided what to get my daddy, where as Brandon had given it some thought and was giving his dad some Giants paraphernalia and tickets to the Triple A All-Star Game and Home Run Derby; a perfect gift for his dad.

My dad on the other hand is harder. You see, there is a story behind gifts to my dad. A few years ago, I thought I had gotten the perfect Father’s Day gift. I had picked up this oh-so-cool-automatic-wrench-sort-of-a-thing and I had been squealing to my mom and Brandon and my siblings that I was just so excited to give it to him. It was so hard to get him a tool he didn’t have and I had found the perfect one! I was sure of it! So with a big sloppy smile on my face I happily watched my dad open up his tool that he didn’t have and I merrily went on my way. MONTHS later, maybe even close to a year, I was out in the garage with my pappy working on cars or some-such, and we were talking about wrenches and what would be best to use on a particular project we were working on and I asked about that fabulous tool that I knew he only had one of just because of me. He waved it off and said something like it wouldn’t work. Thinking about it, although, I decided I wanted to play with it and asked where it was. Then there was this look… this horrible, awful, guilty-look of a look. You know the kind. The kind that says “You aren’t going to be happy with me but…” or “I did something very very very very very bad…” Thinking of the best of my dad, because honestly, who doesn’t think the best of their dad, I asked if he had broken it somehow. He replied with a ‘No’. So, I asked him what had happened. He then explained this horrifying story that I simply could not believe that I was hearing! Basically, he had secretly taken back this oh-so-cool-automatic-wrench-sort-of-a-thing and traded it for this not-so-cool-plain-wrench-sort-of-a-thing and had decided to spare my feelings and not tell me! I was baffled. There I had been, happy as a clown that I had bought him a tool he did not have (mind you, my father has every tool in the book) and he had simply taken it back. I tore into the house nearly in tears hollering for my mum, who was simply the only person who I was sure would understand at that time. The lesson of the day? To NEVER buy my father tools. Ever!

So, yet another Father’s Day had rolled around and I was at a stand still to what to get my dear old man. Then it dawned on me, we had been talking about the Def Leppard concert for weeks and trying to get around to purchasing the tickets (busy thing, again). Who better to take me to a Def Leppard concert then the man himself who had taught me to head bang to 80’s Rock? So, I hopped online and we bought the tickets and put them in an envelope and handed them to my dad. Yay!

So, we have been waiting ever since for the concert and boy, was it great! We had a blast. We not only took my dad but we also took Brandon’s dad. We all just had so much fun jumping up and down and rocking out to some of the best music ever made. You really cannot get better than 80’s rock. And Def Leppard did not disappoint. Best Father’s Day Ever! At least until I find out that my dad somehow didn’t like the concert and wants to take it back. :P But since REO SpeedWagon is the cards for the near future I don’t think that will be happening. :)

These are from the phone so a little fuzzy.

Me and the sweet hubby. Aren't we cute!

The kids and their daddies! We love them so much!

And me and my daddy! Still my superman!
